Dig Pink Volleyball Game

G.K. Chesterton once said, “How you think when you lose determines how long it will be until you win again.” This quote is what Coach McDonald told her team after their tough loss against Pascack Valley. The two rival teams played at Hills on October 30th for the 7th annual Dig Pink Event. They dropped two straight sets 25-22, 25-21, which is unusual for the Cowgirls, who at the time of this article hold a record of 20-3. Junior Tatiana Gallardo led the team with 5 kills, but the Cowgirls had 4 hitting errors to end the first set. Instead of dwelling on the loss, Coach McDonald instead focused her energy on the charity event that these two teams had come together to support. The Dig Pink Fundraiser has raised over $5,000 for the Side Out Foundation this year alone, which was founded in 2004. Over the last 7 years, the team has raised over $25,000. The Side Out Foundation was created to help bring together the game of Volleyball, the players and the coaches, to help raise money for Breast Cancer. Both teams had a ton of support. The students and parents of Hills and Valley were in attendance, as well as the middle school Volleyball teams. There were 50 gift baskets to give away for the raffle and the Dig Pink shirts were sold out. For the Dig Pink Games, the Freshman Volleyball team beat Valley, ending their season on a high note. The JV team finished their season undefeated (20-0), after beating Valley in an absolute 3-set thriller. It seemed that the Varsity team’s county loss against Glen Rock from the previous week affected their game against Valley. “I had to remind myself on my way home, it’s not about whether we won or loss but rather what we did for charity tonight,” Coach McDonald says. Above all, the Dig Pink event was about raising money for a good cause, and was an absolute success.
