The Bergen County Tournament is one made up of only the best teams in Bergen County. While others, like the state tournament, place teams by type of school and school size, the county tournament takes the top teams no matter the size of the school or whether they are public or private. This year, three of Pascack Hill’s fall teams had or have the honor of competing. Here is a recap of some of what has happened so far:

Girls Soccer: Girls soccer was the first program to compete in the tournament. Seeded at 14, coach Ernest and his team first took on Midland Park (19). It was a tough game for the cowgirls to start but in the end they avoided the upset. They won 3-2. Unfortunately the Cowgirls’ county run came to an end in a 4-0 loss to Ramapo (3). As for the rest of the season, junior Allie Ernest (and the rest of her team) is “looking forward to rematches with a lot of tough opponents.”

Boys Soccer: Unfortunately, the boys’ soccer teams county run ended similarly to that of girls’ soccer. Garfield knocked the Cowboys out of the tournament in the second round last Sunday. The game ended with a score of 4-1 in favor of Garfield. Stephano Gikas scoring Hill’s lone goal. Goalie Evan Lazarus, who had nine saves in the game, says the team is looking forward to the upcoming state tournament. “We want revenge from last year after losing to Dover in penalty kicks,” he said, adding that they are hopeful for a chance to play for the state title.

Girls Volleyball: If you haven’t had a chance to catch a county game this year, there is still a chance to get in on the action with the girl’s volleyball team. The Cowgirls (7) are headed into their second round of the tournament with an impressive victory of Cresskill (26) under their belts. Senior setter Kristina Hughes had this to say about the win and their upcoming opponent, Rutherford (10): “After beating Cresskill in two, we are very excited and confident going into our next county game against Rutherford. We need to focus and be as prepared as possible, which I think we are.” The game will be played this Saturday at 3:30pm at Old Tappan High School.
