The New York Mets have been the talk of the school no less the United States. The newly crowned National League champions have made their way to baseball’s biggest stage, the World Series. After dismantling the Cubs in a series sweep, they will either take on the Kansas City Royals or the Toronto Blue Jays in the World Series.

To be honest, I don’t think that either American League team has a chance of taking down the Terry Collins managed Mets for the World Series. From going from a record of 79-83 to know first in their division with a record of 90-72, the Mets haven’t been hotter with the bats and the pitching then now.

The Mets have been hitting at an insane rate during this postseason. This is all centered around NLCS MVP Daniel Murphy. The Mets second basemen has homered in six straight playoff games, a new record. However, Murphy does not do it all. Mets Outfielder Curtis Granderson and mid season acquisition OF, Yoenis Cespedes have been Murphy’s side kicks. Granderson, 34, is hitting .303 (10-for-33) with seven RBIs and four steals in nine games this postseason. Cespedes, 30, is 9-for-34 (.265) with two home runs and seven RBIs.

The Mets offense has been the spark to ignite the flame but the Mets pitching staff has been the gasoline, the consistency that allowed the Mets to get to the postseason in the first place. Every baseball fan knows that pitching wins championships. Led by three aces, yeah three, the Mets pitching staff has been a force to be reckoned with this post season. After coming off Tommy John surgery, Mets Ace Matt Harvey nicknamed “The Dark Knight” has let up 4 hits in 7.2 innings and striking out 9. Jacob De Grom, known for his long hair, has a fastball upwards to 98-100mph. He is 4-0 this post season and is able to dominate games whenever he steps on the rubber. Lastly, Noah Syndergaard nicknamed Thor because of his long blonde hair like the Marvel character is the Mets third ace. He throws hard, and his post-season performances have shown just that. The unsung hero of the Mets pitching staff has been closer Jeurys Familia. The 26 year old has proven he is one of the best closers in baseball. In 9 and 2/3 innings, Familia has issued just four baserunners. All four of those runners came in the NLCS against the Cubs. He didn’t allow a single baserunner against the Dodgers. This staff is tough to stop in the mound.

If the Mets face the Toronto Blue Jays, they will be swamped game one with Cy Young candidate David Price. The Mets offense better come prepared versus the All Star Price. The Blue Jays lineup features big bats of Jose Bautista and Josh Donaldson, so Harvey, deGrom, Syndergaard, and Familia better be ready to throw strikes.

The Mets may face the runner up of last years World Series Kansas City Royals. The Royals are the definition of a comeback team. After being claimed as a fluke for getting to the World Series, they have proved that they can play amongst the best and succeed. Royals feature newly acquired pitcher Johnny Cueto who can give some trouble to the Mets during the series.

From the joke of New York teams a year ago, the New York Mets are considered favorites by many baseball fans. Our very own Varsity Baseball Coach, Coach Kirkby, has been tracking the post season this year. He has this to say about the Mets’ chances of winning it all. “It’s great to see a team that has built from within have the success they are having. Their pitching and defense have helped get them to where they are now and hopefully allow them to prove the cliché “defense wins championships’ to be true.”

Ending the 15-year World Series drought, the Mets are sure to ride their winning ways hopefully to baseball’s covenanted title, a World Series.
