After 3 days of voting, Emma McNierney was voted North Jersey Girls basketball player of the week for the first week of February. McNierney led the girl’s state tournament hopes by averaging 20.7 points, 7.0 rebounds, 4.0 steals and 3.3 assists during the 2-2 week, also connecting on nine three-pointers, nevertheless facing tough guarding from the opposing teams’ defenses.

“When I found out I was nominated, I was super happy since I knew that all the hard work that I put in was showing. I felt extremely supported by my teammates and family” McNierney said.

Teammates, friends, and family of Emma were equally excited about her huge victory. Emma has had many accomplishments throughout her years, but she has never been nominated for this before.

“I’m so proud of Emma because she has been playing basketball passionately since middle school. She deserves this,” Sierra Boffa, a friend of McNierney, said.

Her hard work has not gone unnoticed by the Hills Community. McNierney has been a hard worker on and off the court.

I taught Emma during her freshman year. I knew she played basketball, but I had never been to a game. When I went to one of the varsity games this year, I was blown away. It was so much fun to watch her, and other students, play. Emma absolutely deserves the recognition because she exemplifies everything a Hills athlete should be; she is dedicated, strong, and motivated.

McNierney has been on the girl’s basketball team since her freshman year where she’s worked her way up to being one of the top-scoring girl’s basketball players in the history of Pascack Hills. Her hard work and dedication have allowed her to be recognized and nominated for the award, and with the help of the Pascack Hills community, she gained the majority votes of the five other girls who earned the nomination.

“Emma is the best teammate because she plays for the team, not for herself. She always knows how to lift everyone’s spirit on and off the court. I’m so lucky that I’ve been able to play with Emma for the past three years and will continue to for our senior season,” teammate Christina Boffa said.

With her commitment in the off-season and passion for the sport, Emma McNierney has made a huge impact on the Cowgirls’ season this year and will continue her basketball career next year. The Hills community is excited to see what she has in store for next year and is incredibly happy to see her succeed.
