As the leaves change from green to orange and the weather begins to chill, Netflix returns with a new seasonal selection of television shows and movies for November. Netflix is doing their “fall-cleaning” and taking off many films and television shows as well. Netflix had recently pledged to come up with 50 percent new and original content this month. They have lived up to their promise and created new series, films, and comedy specials for their millions of viewers.
They have created four original comedy specials that can keep one laughing all November long. These comedies have been created by “laugh masters” Dana Carvey, from Saturday Night Live comedic actor, Colin Quinn, SNL writer, Michael Che, and German comedian and television presenter, Dieter Nuhr.
The most anticipated original show this month is The Crown. It is a documentary that follows the life of Queen Elizabeth II. The new show has hour long episodes starring famous British actors such as Claire Foy, playing Queen Elizabeth II, and Matt Smith, playing the role of Prince Philip. The new show should create a whole new community of Netflix users in Britain like never seen before. The Crown official trailer can be found here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=JWtnJjn6ng0
Another very anticipated original film to be released is True Memoirs of an International Assassin. It is an action comedy based around an action writer, played by Kevin James, who, by virtue of his book being published as nonfiction, is mistaken for a real assassin.
There are not many quality non-original Netflix films this month except for a few noteworthy exceptions. Some of those are Boyhood, which is about the life of a child seen through their eyes and filmed by the same cast for 12 whole years capturing the common everyday parts of human life.
Another notable comedy-drama is Burn After Reading, about a disc of memoirs falling from former CIA agents falls into Lisa Litzke and Chad Feldheimer’s hands, the two see enough money for Lisa to get a life changing cosmetic surgery. Predictably, events whirl out of control for the two and those around them.
One of the many films coming out this month is the new movie, The Jungle Book. This is a film about a young boy who was raised by a family of wolves and he must leave his only home and venture the rest of the jungle. Guided by his friends, a panther and bear, he meets an array of jungle animals on his journey as well as learning valuable life lessons and a lot of self-discovery that will stick by him forever.
There are also a variety of new children’s shows such as Bob the Builder and Thomas the Train. It is important Netflix is branching out and adding more children shows because Netflix is very commonly getting new users with young children who would enjoy to use the program as well.
It is obvious that netflix is a very popular television/movie viewing portal all around the world and especially in our school, Pascack Hills. There are many excited students looking forward for new releases to binge-watch on Netflix this up and coming month. Alexa Otto, sophomore at Pascack Hills, says, “I am really excited for new shows to be coming out this next month so I can have many new options on what to watch and I can explore new shows and movies.” Ally Farber, student at Pascack Hills, says, “I heard of some of the new movies coming out this month and have been looking forward to watching them.”
