This summer will be filled with all kinds of new movies. Whether you’re looking for romance, horror, action, or thriller this summer, it is packed with everything. There are even some classic movies re-releasing in theaters! So, what can you look forward to?
“Bad Boys: Ride or Die” (June 7)
The fourth installment in the Bad Boys series follows Mike Lowery (Will Smith) and Marcus Burnett (Martin Lawrence) trying to clear their late police captain’s name after finding out his link to drug cartels. This is Will Smith’s first movie since the infamous Chris Rock Oscars slap.
“I Used to be Funny” (June 7)
This film follows “Bottoms” breakout star Rachel Sennott as an aspiring stand-up comedian who contemplates joining the search for a teenage girl she used to babysit after her disappearance. This movie has been described as the perfect mix of funny and heartbreaking.
“Inside Out 2” (June 14)
The long-awaited sequel to the smash Pixar hit “Inside Out” is finally hitting theaters after nine years! Now, we are following Riley as a teenager and all the chaos that ensues when new emotions enter the picture.
“The Bikeriders” (June 21)
This new Midwestern-style film is set in the 1960s and follows a motorcycle club over a decade as the once innocent group starts to become more and more violent. This movie has a star-studded lineup, featuring Austin Butler, Tom Hardy, Jodie Comer, Mike Faist, and others.
“Kinds of Kindness” (June 21)
Fresh off the success of “Poor Things,” Yorgos Lanthimos is back directing another wild and weird movie starring Emma Stone. The story revolves around three different plots: a man trying to take control of his life, a policeman whose wife seems to be acting strangely after an opposed drowning, and a woman searching for someone with a special ability to be her spiritual guide.
“A Quiet Place: Day One” (June 28)
John Krazinskis’ iconic horror series has yet another installment, now directed by Michael Sarnoski and starring Lupita Nyong’o, Joseph Quinn, Djimon Hounsou, and Alex Wolff. The film follows these characters as they try to survive the Death Angels’ purge in New York City.
“Despicable Me 4” (July 3)
After Gru welcomes a new member to the family and life finally seems to be getting back to normal, another evil villain by the name of Maxime Le Mal escapes prison and seeks vengeance on Gru.
“MaXXXine” (July 5)
The third and final installment in Ti West’s horror series picks up a few years after the incidents of “X.” Maxine is off in Hollywood, trying to make a name for herself when she notices she might be getting followed by the “Night Stalker.”
“Twisters” (July 19)
Starring Daisy Edgar-Jones and Glen Powell comes a remake of the 1996 blockbuster of the same name. It is directed by “Minari” and “The Mandalorians” by Lee Isaac Chung and produced by Steven Spielberg.
“Deadpool & Wolverine” (July 26)
Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) and Wolverine (Hugh Jackman) are finally teaming up in the latest Marvel Cinematic Universe blockbuster. As most MCU movies tend to be, not much is being said about this film. Although most of the plot is top secret, we do know this movie is Marvel Studios and Disney’s first rated-R film.
“Cuckoo” (Aug. 2)
“Euphoria’s” Hunter Schaefer stars in this new and exciting thriller. It follows seventeen-year-old Gretchen (Hunter Schaefer) moving to the German Alps to live on a resort with her father. She quickly starts to pick up on the strange behaviors of her neighbors as well as the mysterious noises she starts hearing. Although the trailer doesn’t reveal much, it seems like this movie promises to be quite the ride, keeping audiences at the edge of their seats.
“It Ends with Us” (Aug. 9)
Based on the hit book by Colleen Hoover of the same name comes a new romance movie starring Blake Lively as Lily Bloom, Justin Baldoni as Ryle Kincaid, and Brandon Sklenar as Atlas Corrigan.
“Borderlands” (Aug. 9)
Following the trend of video game adaptation is Eli Roth’s vibrant action-comedy featuring stars like Cate Blanchett, Ariana Greenblatt, Kevin Hart, and Jack Black.
“Alien: Romulus” (Aug. 16)
Another thrilling installment in the classic Alien series directed by “Evil Deads” Fede Alvarez and starring Cailee Spaeny, Isabela Merced, and David Jonsson.
“Blink Twice” (Aug. 23)
Zoë Kravitz makes her directorial debut with a new mystery film following a waitress (Naomi Ackie) after being invited to a billionaire’s (Channing Tatum) private island where everything seems perfect until things get flipped upside down.
“The Crow” (August 23)
Rupert Sanders’ reboot of the popular comic series of the same name, stars Bill Skarsgård as a vigilante that is resurrected trying to get revenge for the death of him and his fiance (FKA twigs)
