On Tuesday, May 20, 14 art students were inducted to the first-ever National Art Honor Society at Pascack Hills. This pioneer induction took place in the recently renovated auditorium.
NAHS President Christina Samouhos said, “The National Art Honor Society is an organization that recognizes students who excel in individual arts aspects, whether it’s in studio art, ceramics, or photography. We pushed to create it because we wanted students to be recognized for their abilities in the arts.”
The National Art Honor Society joins several other National Honor Societies at Hills, which all have the underlying goal of promoting scholarship, service, and character.
“While the creation process was challenging—especially since we have never had a National Art Honor Society chapter before, and we were working to align our requirements with national standards—seeing it all come together has been so special. I’m so proud of how much the art program has grown and look forward to the future,” said Art Teacher and NAHS Supervisor Angela Rossi.
For all NAHS members, creating art offers an opportunity for them to express themselves while also giving back to the community through service projects.
Samouhous and the rest of the NAHS hope to expand the society in the future and immerse students in more art experiences through field trips and tailored projects.
