On Monday night, the Pascack Valley Regional High School District Board of Education (BOE) discussed budget planning, staff position changes, and a district resignation.
The meeting began with committee reports by board members, highlighting upcoming district plans, delegating funds, and new faculty hires.
Board Member Kristin Martin delivered a summary of the Finance Committee Meeting, outlining the budget allocation for the athletics department within the district to offset rentals for various sports, the booster club initiative discussing the delegation of funds, shifts regarding class sizes in the district, and facility costs within the past five years and future outcomes.
Board Member Debra Stephans summarized an overview of the Ad Hoc Committee Meeting, discussing the district’s hiring processes and recommendations for curriculum instruction along with the review of professional service appointments.
The PFA Liaison summary was provided by Board Member Stephanie Huang. She reported the guidance department’s college readiness meetings for juniors; senior award applications for the ceremony set to take place on June 4; the Pascack Hills Climate Survey upcoming presentation; and mental health awareness events, specifically a discussion around “The Anxious Generation” by Jonathan Haidt.
The Board approved the change of position for District Supervisor of Mathematics and Computer Science Dr. Mark Russo to Director of Curriculum, Instruction, and Assessment for the upcoming 2025-2026 school year. He will serve as the replacement for Dr. Barry Baccenheimer, the current director of the district.
“I am excited and looking forward to what you can do,” said Board President Gini Varghese.
In the meeting agenda and briefly mentioned by Board Member Michael Weaver, the Board accepted the resignation of Superintendent Sarah Bilotti, effective June 30, 2025, with no direct discussion pertaining to her departure.
