On Friday, Oct. 17, the Los Angeles Dodgers clinched their second World Series appearance in the last two years. They had swept the Milwaukee Brewers who had initially been the number one team in the National League. Shohei Ohtani, the home run leader for the team, hit a whopping three home runs on Oct. 17, putting Los Angeles on top 5-1. Not only that, but he also struck out 10 batters and threw six scoreless innings. After that unbelievable game, NBC Sports named his performance the third greatest game by a player in postseason history.
On Monday, Oct. 20, the Toronto Blue Jays won the American League pennant with a crazy come from behind victory. In Game 7 against the Seattle Mariners, the Blue Jays went down early due to Josh Naylor’s RBI single. Toronto quickly bounced back with Dalton Varsho’s single to tie the game. Julio Rodriguez answered Varsho with a solo home run in the third inning making the score 2-1. Cal Raleigh added another run on the board for the Mariners with a solo home run. It felt like the Mariners were going to win their first American League title. George Springer, the hero of Game 7, takes the lead for the Blue Jays in the bottom of the seventh inning with a three-run home run making the score 4-3. The Blue Jays were able to hold onto the lead until the last out of the game, making them champions of the A.L.
This matchup will be one that will go down in the record books, but there can only be one winner. And you may ask, who do I think will be the 2025 World Series champion?
For starters, this series will be a fun one to watch. Two of the greatest hitters of this postseason get to go head to head. Shohei Ohtani and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. Both teams have been putting the ball in play quite a lot. Both teams also overcame tough obstacles along the way. The Blue Jays had to get past the New York Yankees and Seattle Mariners, and the Dodgers had to get past the Cincinnati Reds, Philadelphia Phillies, and the Milwaukee Brewers, the team with the best regular season record.
But enough talk about the matchup…who will be the winner of this series? I think the series will last a total of six games and the Los Angeles Dodgers will win back-to-back World Series titles. They have shown complete dominance over every team they’ve played, and have the most dynamic lineup in the MLB. They’ve made really smart trade moves over the last few years. The Blue Jays will definitely be a tough opponent for them. The Blue Jays know how to put the ball in play, and they play the game very intelligently. Overall, this World Series should be an electric way to cap off postseason baseball.
