“They only look like the perfect couple,” says the slogan of the “Anyone But You” movie poster. To their family and friends, protagonists Bea and Ben seem to be in a happy relationship. Little do they know that the seemingly happy couple is hiding something.
This heartwarming and humorous film starts off with Bea (Sydney Sweeny) and Ben (Glen Powell) meeting at a coffee shop. After this, they have an amazing first date but things quickly take a turn for the worse. However, their paths cross once again–this time at a wedding in Australia. They must pretend to get along and be a perfect couple to not ruin the wedding.
“Anyone But You” is excelling in the media. It reached #38 on the Worldwide Box office list in 2023 despite only being released 10 days before the year ended. “Anyone But You” has grossed over $151 million worldwide. The film is rated R for some mature content and runs 1 hour and 43 minutes. It has achieved its highest ranking in the worldwide box office chart to date, rising from fourth to second place.
This rom-com adapts Shakespeare’s “Much Ado About Nothing” comedic play in terms of an antagonistic relationship. Except the movie has a much more modern spin to it.
Teens craze over this new movie and post Tik Toks of them dancing to the song “Unwritten” by Natasha Bedingfield. This is heard multiple times throughout the film and new Tik Tok trends were created with it. The trend consists of teenagers dancing to the song with a caption of “Us after watching ‘Anyone But You’”
“It was an amazing movie, I love rom-coms, and this was one of the best yet. It was very funny and [it had the] best soundtrack,” said Pascack Hills sophomore Amelie Ruocco.
She also mentioned that her favorite scene is where they get lifted out of the water by the helicopter while singing “Unwritten.”
“Anyone But You” hooks the audience in quickly and does not let them go. It is the perfect feel-good movie to watch for a good laugh. Based on its stellar reviews, this movie deserves all of the success and attention it has earned.
