As college life approaches for graduating seniors, making a list of dorm room essentials is an imperative task to complete over the summer.  Incoming college students should dedicate enough time to craft the perfect combination of furniture and decorations with functionality and spirit.  It should be your number one priority to make your new room feel like home. Here is a list of things to consider when shopping this summer to maximize your college experience:

Mattress topper and bedding – A mattress topper is a must-have when living in a dorm since the mattresses may be less comfortable than your bed at home. Most beds in college dorms are Twin XL, but be sure to check your college’s website before purchasing new sheets and blankets. The best-selling brand for mattress toppers from Amazon is LINENSPA.

Full-length mirror – You may not consider purchasing a full-length mirror right away, but it could be helpful when checking your outfit before going out or trying on new clothes. The best place to get one would be Target or Amazon.

Posters – Posters are a great way to personalize your room and differentiate your side from your roommates’! There are so many different types of posters, including affirmation quotes, musical artists, and photographs. The possibilities are endless. For basic colored posters, Amazon is the way to go. If you’re looking for something more creative or artistic, Etsy has tons of options to browse.

Shower caddy, shoes, and towels – Shower caddies really come in handy, especially if your residence building has communal bathrooms. Having all your shower essentials in one place is very convenient and efficient when racing to the shower after a long day. Additionally, shower shoes and towels are a must when purchasing bathroom supplies for your dorm. Bed Bath and Beyond has plenty of options for purchasing these items with a variety in price and style. The best brand specifically to buy the shower caddy from Bed Bath and Beyond is EcoDecors, which offers many different variations of shower caddies.

Fan – Some college dorms may not have air conditioning (especially in the northern states), so having a fan is a great way to cool down the room! The easiest place to find a variety of fan types would be Amazon, as some people may prefer a desk fan or a stand-up fan.

Extension cord – An extension cord is very useful, especially when you have many devices with few outlets in your room. For multiple ports, try the Alestor Power Strip, or for space saving try the Anker Powerport Cube. Both items can be purchased off Amazon.

Command hooks – Command hooks are a great way to save space in your dorm room by allowing you to hang things up without destroying the walls. A good place to buy this would be Amazon.
