On Monday, April 27, the Pascack Valley Regional High School District Board of Education (BOE) held their annual budget hearing. In this meeting, Board Secretary Cynthia Kirk presented the 2026-2027 budget, which will be reviewed by the State before going into effect for the 2026-2027 fiscal year.
Prior to the budget presentation, Superintendent Dirk Phillips gave the superintendent’s report. In addition to discussing recent events such as the National Honors Society Induction and the Unified Track Meet, he discussed the recent community backlash regarding the potential outsourcing of custodial services; the Board can not solicit any ideas within 90 days of notifying the association, so it will be “about 20 more days to review and possibly place a resolution on the Board agenda,” Phillips stated.
Board Secretary Cynthia Kirk gave the budget presentation, highlighting the following additions:
- A new AP course, AP microeconomics
- More programs for multilingual learners
- Probationary clubs
- The purchase of a school bus
- New netting on the softball and lacrosse fields
- New doors at the gymnasium entrance
In her presentation, Secretary Kirk cited healthcare costs as a major budget constraint, increasing by over $2 million from the 2025-2026 fiscal year and being correlated to the reduction of eight staff positions, which comprised two instructional positions and six support staff positions.
