Walking Through the History of the World Culture Club

Room 227 is the gathering area for the World Culture Club meetings. However, the history of the club and the activities that occur during the meetings are a mystery to some students.
Originally, there were individual language clubs for the students.
Signora Guardabascio, Italian teacher at Pascack Hills said, “At Hills, we used to have individual Spanish, Chinese, Italian, and French club. Those ultimately became the World Culture Club. I was the advisor to the Italian club. They all were replaced with this club, so I was happy to stay on board as the advisor.”
Throughout the year, the club holds several major events and tend to have hands-on activities prepared for current and new club members. One meeting, the students cooked a four course international meal before winter break to prepare foods from the different holidays celebrated around the world in December.
Their most recent meeting was in February where they ate sweets from different countries and learned how cultures celebrate the holiday, Valentine’s Day.
Freshman Katherine Park said, “In a short period of time, I felt the diversity world cultures. Although I just joined recently, I enjoy learning about the holidays celebrated around the world.”
The amount of club members attending the meeting depends on the schedule of students as well as particular club event interest.
Signora said, “New members are always welcome!”
