Model U.N. recognized at Princeton Conference
Despite a large number of competitors, the Pascack Hills team managed to win three major awards under the direction of advisor Jane Yeam.
The Pascack Hills Model United Nations (U.N.) attended the 2022 Princeton Conference on Nov. 17 and returned with different accolades.
This year’s conference saw over 1,000 students from across the world in attendance. Despite a large number of competitors, the Pascack Hills team managed to win three major awards under the direction of advisor Jane Yeam.
Seniors Alana Kimball and Rachel Kim won Honorable Mention (3rd place) for their distinguished representation of South Korea in the United Nations Legal Committee.
Allanah Mednard and Jordana Brief, two other seniors, earned Outstanding Delegation (2nd place) for their efforts in representing the country of Taiwan in the United Nations Legal committee.
“It feels very reassuring,” Brief said in regard to her team’s win, “I put a lot of work into prepping and preparing for the conference, and having that recognized by my peers made me feel good.”
The final achievement was awarded to seniors Leila Dhawan and Alice Gradzki who won Best Delegation (1st place) for their representation of Greece in the U.N.’s Social, Humanitarian, and Cultural Committee.
“It was such a fun experience,” Dhawan explained, “Alice and I didn’t go to win an award, we went to have fun and debate about a topic we were both interested in. It was really cool that we won though because it goes to show that having fun is more important than winning, and I think that’s what the chairs appreciated about [us].”
Hills senior Saya Ross is excited to be a part of the Trailblazer for another year. She joined the publication her sophomore year as a staff writer and edited for the College Corner section her junior year. This year, Ross is looking forward to being the staff's publicist and contacting those for information on news stories in the Hills community.
Fun fact: Ross calls herself a "crazy cat lady."
