In early December, the Pascack Valley Regional High School District hosted another “apple visit”. According to Dr. Bachenheimer, the PVHS Regional District’s Director of Curriculum, Instruction and Assessment, these visits provide Pascack Hills and Pascack Valley with the opportunity to show other academic professionals “how we do what we do in our 1:1 Laptop District.”
District administrators, teachers, and students took the visitors through our journey from the seed of the 1:1 idea, to laptops on carts, and all the way through implementation and impact.
The visiting professionals from New Jersey, New York, Pennsylvania, and Massachusetts were given time to drop in and out of classrooms to observe the levels of laptop use across the curriculum.
The Pascack Valley Regional High School District has been recognized as the first 1:1 Laptop District in the State of New Jersey and among the top 10 in the country, which makes the district trendsetters in the field. These honors also mean the district is always seeking to improve.
Trends catch our eyes each and every day, but what the district is looking for are trends that will bear fruit down the line, which is difficult to anticipate. When asked what is coming next, Dr. Bachenheimer said that, “although we just did the refresh from MacBook to MacBook Air, we are always asking ourselves, what is the next thing that the district needs, and more importantly, what do our students need?” He also emphasizes that we should not expect a static system – just as technology changes, so will our programs!
Dr. Bachenheimer encourages students to drop by his office or email him with suggestions and opinions on how the instructional and technology program is working.
