Interact has struck once again. They have continued their philanthropic ways and have organized another supply drive for Pascack Hills.
Not unlike the Thanksgiving Food Drive, the Women’s Toiletries Supply Drive was a huge success. This supply drive was a direct pathway to helping the Women’s Homeless Shelter of Hackensack, Shelter Our Sisters (SOS), gain the supplies they need to help victims of domestic violence.
Shelter Our Sisters, a non-profit organization opened in 2009 in Hackensack, NJ, has helped thousands of women in Bergen County leave abusive relationships and save them from the fear of constant violence. SOS also has a program to help women get jobs once they are ready to get back on their feet.
PHHS’s Interact Club is helping the shelter by collecting make-up, shampoo, and various other items to help these women continue their next step to a violence-free life.
Interact’s co-advisor, Mrs. Bloom, said, “Our supply drive allows for the women of Shelter Our Sisters to appear job ready and give these women confidence.”
The shelter helps teach the women how to prepare for an interview, dress appropriately, use a computer, manage personal finances, and gain overall financial success.
The supply drive has enabled these women to gain a first step in a future of nonviolence. It also helps their children see their parents not only as parents, but also as as individuals with strength and dignity.
