Hills girls’ lacrosse: Week one overview
The first game of the Pascack Hills girls’ lacrosse season was on Tuesday, April 20 against Morris Catholic High School.
The first game of the Pascack Hills girls’ lacrosse season was on Tuesday, April 20 against Morris Catholic High School. While Morris Catholic was an aggressive team, the team remained resilient and determined on the field. These qualities certainly paid off, as the Broncos defeated the Morris Catholic Crusaders 12 to 10.
Senior Sylvie Najarian was the top scorer of this particular game, accumulating a whopping five goals. Other notable scorers included: sophomore Emily Sailer (three goals), senior Ryan Glazer (two), junior Reilly Prendergast (one), and finally sophomore Izzie Benedict (one).
On Thursday, April 22, Hills faced off against the Academy of Holy Angels. The girls put up another good fight, defeating the Angels 16-12. Sailer scored four goals, while Glazer scored three.
Other scorers in this game were: junior Ally Green (two goals), Najarian (two) Benedict (two), Prendergast (two), and freshman Sienna Corey (one).
In the final game of the week, Hills traveled to Emerson High School to play against EPR, a combination of the towns of Emerson and Park Ridge, who play together as one joint team. This was an incredible game for Hills, who secured a final score of 16-0.
Najarian was the top scorer of this game, with five goals and one assist. Emily Sailer scored three goals and two assists, while junior Rachel Klein, Green, and Prendergast scored one goal respectively. Glazer scored three goals. and Benedict scored two.
“We’ve come so far as a team and to hear the buzzer go off in the second quarter and look at the score to see we won is a feeling I’ve never felt before, and I love being a part of it,” said freshman goalie Savanna Bell, who played a huge part in this week’s games.
The Broncos also faced off against Governor Livingston High School and River Dell on April 26 and April 28, respectively.
Hills senior Saya Ross is excited to be a part of the Trailblazer for another year. She joined the publication her sophomore year as a staff writer and edited for the College Corner section her junior year. This year, Ross is looking forward to being the staff's publicist and contacting those for information on news stories in the Hills community.
Fun fact: Ross calls herself a "crazy cat lady."
