Fall sports saw some great games, especially in football, as Hills had a 7-1 regular season record, won the Super Football Conference Ivy Red Division for the second straight year, and finished third in the Ivy Playoffs. Boys soccer followed a year that saw them win the Bergen County Cup with a silver medal in the Bergen County Invitational and a quarterfinal loss in the state tournament.
Girls’ sports were led by volleyball and tennis, which had 19-5 and 12-3 records, respectively. Volleyball had a state quarterfinal appearance, while tennis lost in the state semifinals to Demarest. Girls soccer finished their season with a 7-6-3 record and a first-round loss.
Winter was a successful time for boys basketball especially. A 16-10 record was bolstered by a win in the Bergen County Invitational Tournament and a close state semifinal loss to Ramsey. Wrestling had an even record with a quarterfinal loss in the state team tournament.
Jake Wacha was the only wrestler to represent Hills in the State Championships in Atlantic City. Wacha medaled in 8th place at 150 lbs to finish a successful career as a Bronco. Boys bowling had a respectable 10-6 season with a state quarterfinal loss; their girls counterpart also lost in the state quarterfinal to finish at 6-7. Girls basketball won their last two games of the season to finish at 6-17.
Spring sports are still ongoing as of this writing, and although we await to see how far Pascack Hills Baseball goes to defend their Group 2 title and how far our boys’ tennis team goes, we can tell you how all other spring sports finished.
Boys lacrosse followed their first-ever championship season with a 10-9 record as new coach John Esposito got settled with his squad. They lost in the first round of the state tournament and finished third in the league, which they won last year. Girls lacrosse and softball had under .500 records, although they were close, with lacrosse finishing at 6-9 and softball at 8-15. Unfortunately, neither team did not make it to the state tournament.
This season marked a significant milestone for Hills Golf as it proudly introduced its girls’ golf team, adding a new dimension to the Bronco lineup. They finished with no match wins but did make the state sectional tournament, in which they placed 11th out of 12. Boys Golf did win one match over Dumont, but it was not enough for them to make states.
