Boys Soccer
After a 1-3 start, boys soccer started this past fortnight with a two-game winning streak that quickly cooled off last week with three straight losses. A 1-0 win against Westwood on Saturday gave them their second divisional win, as they currently sit at 2-3. Seniors Sam Kwon, Noah Lefkowitz, and Joe Pietrunti lead the team in scoring, combining for seven goals and 19 points. Logan Litt has had a solid run as the goalie, letting up only six goals in five games. Boys soccer will want to preserve their momentum, as they will enter the back half of the regular season with the race for the Big North Patriot Division and state playoff seeds coming down in the next month.
Girls Soccer
A three-game losing streak has struck girls’ soccer as of late. Their only win in the past two weeks has come against River Dell. They sit fifth of six teams in the Patriot Division, with their only league win coming against lowly River Dell. Sophie Pinkwater has been a highlight for this team, as she leads in offense with three goals and two assists. It seems girls’ soccer will be entrenched in a battle for a state playoff spot, sitting in 15th with the top 16 teams getting in. They will need wins in the next few weeks to secure a playoff berth.
Girls Tennis
The only bright spot for fall sports at Hills this season seems to be the girls’ tennis team. Coaches Eric Ganz and Jordan Saxon have steered the team to a 7-3 record and a four-game winning streak, including a win over New Milford as the number two seed in the first round of state team playoffs. They have continued their league dominance, with a 5-0 record, and look to close out division play undefeated with their only matches left coming against Mahwah and River Dell. They play tenth-ranked Sussex Tech in the state quarterfinals at home on Oct. 8th.
Volleyball
It has been a bit of a disappointing season for volleyball. The Broncos have gone 3-4 since our last article, and only one of those wins has come in the division. That means they are currently fifth of six in a division where they finished second last season. Even with the losses, the quality of competition that Hills has been playing still has them clearly in the state playoffs, but hopes are high that October will bring great things for a team with a lot of talent.
Football
Pascack Hills football finally earned their first win! A tough battle at Teaneck on Saturday, the 21st, saw the Broncos come out with a 13-12 win. Connor Ohnikian had quite the game with a 61-yard touchdown run and 138 yards total on the ground. Ohnikian led the Broncos with a lot of help from his offensive line. That had hopes high for a collision with Ramsey last Friday night. The visiting Rams had Hills outscored in the first half, but a slight comeback from the Broncos saw a final score of 21-14 in favor of Ramsey.
Gavin Ulanday began the second half with a 43-yard breakaway run for a touchdown. Then, a touchdown pass from Dren Bauta to Sam Lundgren had hopes high, but an onside kick was recovered by Ramsey seeing the last hopes for the Broncos’ first win since rejoining the SFC American Red Division disperse. A 1-3 record is all that football has to offer for September, but four straight weeks of action seem to have refined the talent on the team, and we will see what October has to offer for not just football, but all sports at Pascack Hills.
