It’s the ‘season’ of the school play, and everyone should be taking the ‘525,600’ steps to watch it. This Spring, the Pascack Hills Players will be coming in hot with their version of Jonathan Larson’s 1996 broadway hit, RENT.

The play and movie is about a group of friends in the East Village of New York within the 1990’s. Almost all of these characters struggle with their sexuality and paying their rent while living under the stress of the severe AIDS epidemic that is around them.

Junior Frank Scott claims that, “RENT is by far the biggest production Pascack Hills has ever put on. It’s very unique, partially because of its risqué themes, but also because of the fact that it’s an Opera; the entire show is written in song.”

Scott takes the role of Tom Collins, a teacher and local anarchist who falls in love with a drag queen, Angel. Although not the main lead, Tom Collins is an important role in a subplot of the play. However this is not the only plot of complicated love.

Not only do the characters find themselves within the struggles of love when AIDS take over, but they fight the stigmas of this STD. Some find each other through life support groups, while others find each other through the wonders of rock opera music.

Junior Matt Coughlin, a member of stage crew, says that, “the show is moving along very well; the sets are very new and big to us so it’s something for the entire school.”

Show times are as follows: March 1st 7-9pm, March 2nd 7-9pm, March 3rd 7-9pm, and March 4th 2-4pm. Good luck to everyone performing in Rent, and come show support for these stars.
