2022 Met Gala: The best of fashion – or not
The celebrities took to the red carpet with the theme of “Gilded Glamour,” which pulls inspiration from New York City’s Gilded Age of prosperity and excess.
The Met Gala is back! The fundraiser took place on May 2 and honored the second half of the exhibition “In America: An Anthology of Fashion.” Last year’s ball was held in September due to the pandemic, but is usually celebrated on the first Monday of May.
This night is considered one of the biggest in fashion where people tune in to see the various celebrity ensembles–and the developing drama. The highly anticipated event is held at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York City and raises funds for the Costume Institution.
This year was co-chaired by Blake Lively, Ryan Reynolds, Regina King, and Lin-Manuel Miranda. The celebrities took to the red carpet with the theme of “Gilded Glamour,” which pulls inspiration from New York City’s Gilded Age of prosperity and excess. There was lots of talk prior to the gala regarding theme, attendance, and attire.
But did the celebrities meet these high expectations?
When announced, the theme was said to either be the perfect recipe for extravagant disaster or a shocking triumph. Many took liberties in perfecting their attire for the cameras and did not exactly fit the envisioned dress code. While there were certainly both successes and dramatic failures, take a look at some of the creative masterpieces of the 2022 Met Gala.
