On Tuesday, January 12, 2016, President Obama gave his final State of the Union Address. Here are the major points from the speech.

Economy

  • The unemployment rate when Obama took office was 7.8% and as of December, the unemployment rate has dropped to 5%.
  • Over the past 70 months, 14.1 million jobs have been created.

Climate Change

  • Nearly 200 countries came together to adopt the most ambitious agreement to combat climate change.
  • By 2030, carbon pollution from power plants will be cut by 32%.

World Affairs

  • Iran can no longer obtain a nuclear weapon.
  • 160,000 combat troops are home from war.

Health Care

  • More than 90% of Americans have health insurance for the first time ever.
  • Nearly 18 million Americans have gained health coverage.

 

Obama concluded the speech with “Thank you, God bless you, and God bless the United States of America.”
