One year removed from the Group 2 final of the NJSIAA Group Tournament, the Pascack Hills Cowboys have begun their quest for revenge. The Cowboys lost to Ewing by a score of 59-50 at the Rutgers Athletic Center in Piscataway, New Jersey in the finals to end a remarkable run, which included a Brian Horn buzzer beater against Ridgefield Park to send them to the RAC.
Though they are without last year’s stars Jared Shill and Cole Dorfman, this year’s team is different. With a balanced attack led by seniors Brian Horn, Andy Kovner, and Drew Mann, as well as juniors Noah Tucker, Nick Hallowell, Jordan Lazarus, and Gavin Murphy, the Cowboys are headed back to the sectional semi-finals. To open the tournament, the Cowboys got off to a slow start against a tall Dover squad, but soon pulled themselves together, knocked down a few jumpers, and cruised to a 72-43 victory.
Next, the Cowboys faced the always-tough Maroon Raiders of Dwight Morrow. Early on, it wasn’t looking too good for the Cowboys, as they seemed to be getting out-muscled in the post by the Maroon Raiders’ big men. However, it wasn’t long before Noah Tucker led the team back into the game. Tucker scored a season high 19 points in route to a 59-42 win.
The Cowboys will play host to Elmwood Park on Friday in the Section 1, Group 2 semi-finals. With a win on Friday, the Cowboys will only be two wins away from another trip to Rutgers.
Come out, get loud, get crazy, and support your Pascack Hills Cowboys as they look to bring the state title home!
