    Heisman Trophy Watch

The Heisman is a tradition in College Football that goes back to 1935, when Jay Berwanger won the award. The best college football player of the year is decided by a vote and the winner receives the historical Heisman trophy. This year, there are numerous players that deserve the award. These are some of the early frontrunners for the prestigious award.

    4. Robert Griffin: Quarterback of Baylor University:

Robert Griffin is having a tremendous season, throwing for almost 2,000 yards and rushing for almost 300. Being 6’2” and weighing 220 pounds makes him a perfect size to be a mobile quarterback. Robert Griffin may be the most dynamic quarterback in the NCAA today. What separates him from the pack is his astonishing eleven to one touchdown to interception ratio. Robert Griffin and the Baylor Bears are in the top 25 and are playing their best football. If Griffin keeps up this pace, he will be a Heisman contender by the end of the year.

    3. Kellen Moore: Quarterback of Boise State University:

This lefty continues to do what he does best, complete passes and score touchdowns. Kellen Moore and Boise State have been doubted for the last few years, but do not make the mistake of counting this team out of the National Championship. Moore is having another great year with over 2,000 passing yards and 24 touchdowns. He has five interceptions, but he has proven to be a winner for the Broncos. Although Boise State does not have a tough schedule, Kellen Moore consistently puts up monster numbers.

    2. Trent Richardson: Running Back of the University of Alabama:

This hard-hitting running back is tearing up defenses with his quickness and brute force. Trent is averaging over six and a half yards per carry and has 18 touchdowns this year. Richardson learned how to run behind Mark Ingram who is now on the New Orleans Saints. His specialty is the goal line run when the defense is stacked in the box. Trent and the Alabama Crimson Tide are ranked number two in the country and have a huge game coming up against LSU, the number one ranked team and the number one ranked defense. If Trent Richardson puts up big numbers in that game, do not be surprised if he is the frontrunner for the Heisman.

    1. Andrew Luck: Quarterback of Stanford University

What a surprise, Andrew Luck is the overwhelming favorite to win the Heisman. He is the most NFL-ready quarterback to come into the league since Peyton Manning was drafted out of Tennessee. Teams in the NFL are competing in the “Suck for Luck” sweepstakes because it is almost a given that he will go first pick overall. Luck is having a great year throwing for just under 1,900 yards and accounting for 21 touchdowns. Andrew Luck can also scramble and can run for a few big first downs throughout the game. Stanford Cardinals are a top ten team almost single-handedly because of Andrew Luck.

With Andrew Luck leading the way, the race to the Heisman is well on its way. One of the best times of the College Football season is the Heisman Award Show when a few deserving players come to hopefully receive this award. There is still a lot of time for players to come into contention and get out of contention with a few bad games. These four frontrunners have displayed their football talents, and all have professional potential.
