The Cowboys have picked up their sticks, laced up their cleats, and are looking for another successful season that will boost them into the playoffs. After just two years as a team, Pascack Hills has an impressive record, getting into the playoffs both years. Senior captains Devon Palmieri, Deniz Piatt, Jacob Scott, Brett Karpinos, and Matt Colombo plan to lead the team to victory. Head Coach Eric Quaranti has the Varsity team practicing hard this year, preparing them for their rigorous 17 game schedule, including teams such as Pascack Valley, the team’s rival. Assistant coach Mike Holl is working hard with the JV, teaching them how to play as a team and preparing some players for what will be their first season of lacrosse.
At their first scrimmage against the distinguished Indian Hills on Thursday, March 14, Pascack Hills fought hard for a tie at 5-5, with Senior Captain Matt Colombo scoring 3 goals in the second half. The captains are expecting great things out of the team, with captains Jacob Scott and Deniz Piatt predicting a record of 12-4, and captain Devon Palmieri.
All of the captains are happy with the talent on the team this year as well. When asked what the strongest part of the team was, Jacob Scott said “our chemistry. We play as a team.” Both captains Piatt and Palmieri believe it is “our defense,” which is returning with three previous starters.
The fresh lacrosse program has been attempting to enhance its name for the past two years, and each of the captains have different goals to make that happen. For Jacob Scott, it’s simply “goals.” He believes that having newer kids score more will make the team get more experience. Deniz Piatt just wants to “win the Curcio Division league race.” This is something that the Hills lacrosse team has never done, and would give the team a lot of good publicity.
All in all, the lacrosse team is planning big things this year, so come out and see a couple of games if you get the chance. Because, as captain Brett Karpinos always says, “Lacrosse is fun. Fun… but expensive.” Go Cowboys!
