Halloween has many fun annual festivities such as trick-or-treating, dressing in costume, getting handfuls of candy, and more! Another classic activity participants often look forward to is watching classic Halloween movies; providing thrill and nostalgia for the viewers. Here are some movies for you to watch this spooky season!
“It’s the Great Pumpkin, Charlie Brown” (1966)
Released in October, 1966, this movie is based on the 1950’s Charlie Brown comics drawn by Charles M. Schultz. It follows members of the Peanuts who go on many adventures. Linus is convinced that the “Great Pumpkin” will rise from the pumpkin patch and give candy to all the good kids. Charlie Brown goes trick or treating and amusingly receives a rock at every house. Snoopy, uses his big imagination and pretends his doghouse is a fighter plane. Each Peanut has something unique to adore about them which makes this a cute and amusing watch.

“Ghostbusters” (1984)
The original was released in 1984, and five more in the following years. The first “Ghostbusters” focuses on three scientists who decided to start a unique ghost-hunting business. They hunt down various odd ghosts such as Slimer, who is a giant green blob of jelly, the Stay Puft Marshmallow Man, whose name is exactly how it describes, and the spooky purple Librarian Ghost.
“Hocus Pocus” (1993)
Released in 1993, this movie follows the three witches known as the Sanderson Sisters. After being accidentally resurrected on Halloween night, a teenage boy relights a magical candle. The sisters’ goal is to find eternal youth, and they can do so by sucking the youth out of children. Human protagonists Allison, Max, and Dani are tasked to steal the Sanderson Sisters’ spellbook and send them back to where they came from; the dead.

“Casper” (1995)
Though there are multiple movies in the franchise, the most watched is the 1995 live-action version. It is about a man named Dr. James Harvy who helps ghosts deal with their “unfinished business”. Dr. James is hired by a greedy woman, Carrington, to dispel ghosts in an old creepy house. They meet a friendly ghost named Casper, and their mission is to try and convince Carrington to like Casper.
“The Shining” (1980)
This iconic film, released in 1980, is a thrilling horror based on the Stephen King novel. With a darker tone, it follows Jack Torrance and his family who accept an offer to take care of an isolated and spooky hotel. Jack’s son, Danny, has disturbing visions of the hotel’s past which reveal a horrifying homicidal maniac set on torturing Jack and his family.
