After facing construction delays, the track at Pascack Hills is in-place for students and coaches to use for athletics. Sept. 8 was the first day that students were able to go outside for physical education classes and walk laps around it.

“Generally, to do the job correctly, we would need to shut down the track and turf for two days and we just don’t have that kind of time in the schedule,” he said.

Anthony Aliprantis, physical education teacher at Hills, explained that the material used for the new track is used by many colleges and schools with competitive athletic programs.

“This is the best of the best,” he said, “It’s better for your knees and will, hopefully, prevent less shin splints.”

He said that the material of the old track did not have as much advanced technology and led to more injuries due to its condition.

Hills senior and cross country member Christine Audia said that the track “feels more bouncy” and is “refreshing” for when she trains with the team.

Papa re-emphasized the need for the project to be done as he did with the gyms

“The students, coaches, and teachers all love the surface…it will benefit everyone who uses it,” he said.
