Last Thursday, on Oct. 23, six Pascack Hills students were inducted to the National Honor Society (NHS) at the annual Fall Induction Ceremony, honoring those who demonstrate the organization’s pillars: scholarship, service, leadership and character.
The new inductees will join the 77 Hills seniors who were inducted in the spring of the 2024-2025 school year:
- Carson Boffa
- Zhala Ismayilzada
- Arkady Kokush
- Alicia Lewicki
- Shiloh Perez
- Brielle Siegenthaler
The induction ceremony took place in the Pascack Hills Auditorium, where current NHS members and families gathered to celebrate the new honorees as they walked the stage to receive their certificates.
An opening welcome by NHS President Lexi Mandel began the ceremony, followed by a recitation of the “Star Spangled Banner” by senior Caitlin Buckley and a duet performance of “I Think They Call This Love” by seniors Elijah Chen and Miriam Rozman. NHS Officers Kate Glass, Elijah Chen, Maddy Espinosa, and Lexi Mandel then participated in the candle-lighting portion of the event.
“NHS is a society that recognizes and promotes scholarship, service, leadership and character among high school students,” said Spanish teacher and NHS advisor Ivica Kanova. “Our NHS chapter members are highly dedicated, excelling academically while also committing their time to various initiatives.”
To be eligible for membership, 11th and 12th-grade candidates must achieve a minimum 3.85 GPA. Beginning with the Class of 2027, the academic requirement will increase to a 3.95 GPA.
In addition to academic excellence, inductees must complete at least 30 hours of documented community service and demonstrate leadership through active participation in extracurricular activities. Candidates also submit an essay reflecting on the four NHS pillars as a part of the membership consideration process.
The Pascack Hills NHS Chapter actively contributes to the school community through service projects such as peer tutoring, community fundraisers, and school-wide initiatives that promote volunteerism, leadership, and academic growth.
With the addition of the new inductees, the chapter will continue to grow in its legacy, raising new leaders in the Hills community.
