What a weekend it was! Feb. 11 was one of the biggest days in football history. For the second time in 56 years, the San Francisco 49rs and the Kansas City Chiefs put the Super Bowl into overtime, ending the game with a score of 25-22 and making the Chiefs back-to-back Super Bowl Champions.

A survey was sent out to the Hills community asking their opinions about the Super Bowl. The Trailblazer asked if they watched the Super Bowl, their thoughts on the Usher halftime show, and their overall opinions.

Overall, the majority of students and staff watched the Super Bowl and halftime show this year. There was a mix of responses and opinions from all.

One anonymous senior said, “I really don’t like the design of the page. I think the logos are not all the same size, we should do bigger photos and baby photos, better descriptions…”

Alexander McKay, a Hills sophomore and Chiefs fan, said, “The game was one of the better super bowls in recent years, but should’ve had a different ending. Patrick Mahomes and the chiefs have won enough, it’s unfair how they don’t let anyone else have the glory of winning the trophy.”

Loved the half-time show. Some of my favorites were all up on stage; brought me back to 2004!

— Hills teacher Jamie Marootian.

45% of the students that filled out the survey were voting for The Kansas City Chiefs, making the other 55% voting for the San Francisco 49rs.

Madeleine Djedji, a Hills junior and 49ers fan, said, “Fantastic but I’m sorry that The San Francisco 49rs didn’t get to win.”

For some of the audience, the best part of the game is the halftime show. The student body had some varied emotions and thoughts towards the 2024 Super Bowl Halftime Show performed by Usher.

Loved the half-time show. Some of my favorites were all up on stage; brought me back to 2004!” said Hills teacher Jamie Marootian.

The students and faculty expressed that they either loved or hated the halftime show. Many believe Usher had a great performance, but didn’t sing his more popular songs.

“Trash bro shoulda worn a shirt not a single person [knew] those songs all my friends were waiting for [DJ Got Us Fallin’ In Love],” said senior Ryan McGuire.

Everyone has noticed that Taylor Swift has taken the music industry by storm this year. With her Eras Tour, she has definitely made her name known to music fans everywhere. Swift, now dating Travis Kelce, a Kansas City Chiefs tight end player, has now made her name known in the football industry as well.

I thought that it was great she was supporting her boyfriend and I don’t understand why everyone is so mad about her being there. She has nothing to do with the football

— Hills sophomore Ryan Zoelle

The Hills community has very different opinions on how Taylor made a presence in football recently.

“Personally, I found it a little distracting and annoying; I am sure there were other celebrities there and wives/girlfriends/fiances who should have been given some attention as well.  I like Taylor, but it has been a bit too much these last few weeks,” said science teacher James Soltmann.

Like any, there are definitely a handful of Swifties and Swiftie haters at Hills.

“I thought that it was great she was supporting her boyfriend and I don’t understand why everyone is so mad about her being there. She has nothing to do with the football,” said sophomore Ryan Zoelle.

Overall, the students and staff had many different and mixed feelings and opinions about the 2024 Super Bowl.
