Pascack Hills track team competes in the Bergen County Championships

On Feb. 14, the winter track team traveled to the Armory in New York City to compete in the Bergen County Championships. During this meet, many Hills athletes shined and really set themselves apart from the competition.

On the girls side, freshman distance runner Keira Hickey ran in the 800-meter race and the 1600-meter race. In the 800-meter, Hickey ran a time of 2:28, which was a personal best by 3 seconds. This performance earned her 2nd place and the second fastest time in Bergen County.

In the 1600-meter race, Hickey’s time was 5:50, which got her a 6th place finish and it was only 9 seconds away from a personal best.

Junior sprinter Meredith Colla ran in the 200-meter dash and the 400-meter dash on the 14th. In the 200-meter dash, she ran a personal best of 27.14 and placed 17th out of the girls running.

In the 400-meter dash, Colla came in 6th while running the race in 1:01, a lifetime record for her. It was ultimately a successful meet for Colla.

For the boys, senior Peter Priestner ran in the 600-meter race. Priestner’s time for this race ended up as 1:25 which was a personal record for him by 4 seconds and it is the fastest time out of the boys’ winter team. This performance landed Priestner a 5th-place finish.

Tyler Lovett, a sophomore distance runner, participated in the 800-meter race. Lovett ran the race in 2:22 which was a 4-second personal record for him. Lovett placed 15th in the county.

Junior distance runner Dylan Barrett participated in the 1600-meter race on Wednesday. He ran the mile in 4:47, which was a personal best for him by 8 seconds. This performance landed him a 1st place finish in his heat and 10th overall in the county.

“PRing by this much and coming first in my heat is definitely very exciting. It was a big PR at the end of the season and I’m proud of that. I am looking forward to what will come in the spring,” he said.

Junior Ben Malone finished 4th in pole vaulting after scoring 11-6 in the competition. He was only a foot away from matching his personal best.
