Over the weekend of March 8 to March 10, 2024, a select few from the Pascack Hills winter track team competed in the New Balance and Nike Nationals that took place in Boston, Mass., and New York City, N.Y., respectively.

Freshman Keira Hickey, who has been one of the best freshman girls in Bergen County this indoor season, traveled to Boston to compete in the 800-meter race at the New Balance Nationals. In the race, Hickey ran a personal best of 2:26, shaving two minutes off of her previous time. She has also done exceptionally well in the 1600 and 3200-meter races this season.

While at the Nike Nationals in New York City, senior Maura Alden ran in the 55-meter hurdles and the 60-meter hurdles. She ran the 55-meter hurdles in 9.14 seconds, which was 0.24 seconds off of her season-best 8.90. In the 60-meter hurdles, Alden ran the race in 9.82 seconds, which was a season-best. She placed 59th in both of these races.

Senior Peter Priestner was also competing in the Nike Nationals meet, where he ran in the 800-meter race. During the race, he ran it in 2:04, which was six seconds away from his personal best this season. Priestner came in 56th place in the race.

The boys’ spring medley team made it to the Nike Nationals as well. This team consisted of seniors Anthony Di Fiore, Peter Priestner, Michael Dao, and junior Adam Leon. During the relay, the boys ran a time of 3:41 seconds, which was a six-second season best for them as a team. They ended up placing 7th overall in their race.

Making it to nationals was the perfect end to a very successful season for these athletes. Not only was it a great season for them, but it was also a season to remember for the whole team. Now, they look onto the spring track season with their first meet on April 1.
